Community News & Events (# 5) is a 2 minute loop with audio (soft jazz). It is a deadpan impersonation of
the aesthetic conventions of a 'community calendar' channel, making it site-specific in that regard, as a
televised broadcast, but with absurdist intentions. The piece may also be viewed as an intervention work,
as it was recently installed in an elevator lobby at the McIntre Department of Art, on the University of
Virginia campus, where a viewer may pass it off as another campus 'infomonitor' rather than encounter it
as 'art'. In both instances, TV and installation, the work is meant as a public art piece, redefining the
public domain, and examining how we speak to each other through media. The result is a one-way flow
of information which negates discussion, and further action. View it here.
