This month, Acid Rain presents an untitled mash-up from Paperrad’s Jacob Ciocci, and video artist Shana Moulton. The transition from one artist to the other is like night and day. Shana in this instance shooting on Super 8 and Jacob jamming the screen with .jpgs and youtube clips. His images of aliens, drawings, an airbrush stand, and cross-stitchings flicker in a pattern like some subliminal mind control hypnosis. Ciocci adds animation that melts into found video footage while other times he distorts the videos into a glitchy pile. Moulton’s Super 8 footage has an eerie color tone possibly through the age of the film. It adds a sense of loneliness to this otherwise comical figure who, like in her more recent digital video work, is surrounded by kitsch. Here though, different from her other work, there is a sublety to the fetishizing that allows us to join in.
